If your DMs are eating your life, someone has probably suggested hiring a chatter: a person who logs into your OnlyFans account and answers your fans for you, usually while pretending to be you.
Before you do it, you should know what chatters actually cost. The sticker price is only the start.
The going rates
Chatter pay is discussed openly on job boards, agency sites and creator forums, and the advertised ranges are fairly consistent. Treat these as typical figures rather than guarantees, because deals vary a lot:
- Offshore chatter farms: roughly $2.50 to $8 per hour, typically based in the Philippines, Venezuela or Eastern Europe, often working several creators' accounts per shift.
- Experienced English-native chatters: commonly $10 to $25 per hour, or more for proven sellers with upselling skill.
- Commission-only: usually 5% to 15% of the DM revenue they generate (tips, PPV unlocks, customs they close).
- Hybrid deals: a low hourly base plus 2% to 10% commission is common, pitched as aligning incentives.
- Through an agency: chatting is usually bundled into a management deal that takes 30% to 60% of your gross earnings. Run the basic arithmetic on coverage and the costs stack up quickly. One chatter working eight hours a day at $6 per hour is roughly $1,450 a month, and your inbox is still unstaffed two thirds of the time. Anything close to 24/7 human coverage means a rota of three or more people, which is $4,000 a month and up at farm rates, before commissions.
The costs that are not on the invoice
The hourly rate is the visible cost. These are the ones that bite later.
Your login is the product. A chatter cannot work without access to your account. That usually means handing your password or an active session to a stranger, often through an agency platform built to share one account across a team. The person taking the risk in that arrangement is not the chatter.
Voice drift costs sales. Fans notice when "you" suddenly types differently at 3am, forgets what he told you last week, or pushes PPV like a market stall. The parasocial connection is the thing fans pay for, and it erodes quietly. A fan who feels the switch rarely complains. He just stops spending.
Turnover and training never end. Chatter farms churn constantly. Every new chatter has to learn your persona, your boundaries, your prices and your regulars from scratch, and they learn on your paying fans.
Trust is a real exposure. You are giving a stranger access to your income stream, your fans' identities and every private message you have ever exchanged. Most chatters are honest professionals. The ones who are not have everything they need.
What the alternative costs

But the job has two parts, and only one of them needs to be you. Reading a fan, deciding what happens next, being the person he is attached to: that is you. Typing a good reply from scratch, forty times an hour: that is the part technology can now carry.

- Never share your real password. At minimum, understand exactly how access works and how to revoke it in one step.
- Write the persona down. Boundaries, prices, pet names, banned topics, tone. If it is not written, it will be improvised.
- Read the transcripts weekly. Your name is on every message. Behave as if you will be quoted, because you might be.
- Keep the relationships anchored to you. The more a chatter carries your top fans alone, the more of your business walks out the door if they do.
The bottom line
Chatters cost $3 to $25 an hour for partial coverage, or 30% to 60% of everything through an agency, plus your password, plus your voice, plus a legal responsibility that never transfers. AI assistance costs less than a night of chatter coverage per month and never touches your login or your send button.
Your fans want you in the conversation. Keep yourself there, and hand off the typing instead of the relationship.
