How to Start an OnlyFans in 2026: Account Setup, Verification, Pricing and Your First Posts

8 min read

Short answer: setting up an OnlyFans account takes about an hour, verification takes anywhere from a few hours to a few days, and the page itself should be loaded with content before you tell anyone it exists. The setup is the easy part. What you do in the first 30 days after decides whether the page earns anything.

This guide covers both: the mechanics of getting the account live, and the decisions that matter once it is.

Before you sign up: four decisions

Make these before you create the account. They shape everything else.

1. What is the page about? "Me, being hot" is not a niche. "Gym girl who talks back", "soft goth, no face, feet and lingerie", "couple, amateur, we answer every message" are niches. A clear one makes your bio, your content and your promotion easier. Our persona guide walks through how to choose.

2. Face or no face? This is hard to reverse. If you may ever want to be anonymous, start anonymous. Our faceless creator guide covers what still sells.

3. Free or paid? A free page grows faster and earns in DMs. A paid page filters for spenders. More on this below.

4. What name? Something you can use on OnlyFans, X and Reddit consistently, that is not tied to your real name, and that still makes sense in a year. Check all three platforms before you commit.

Step 1: Create the account

Go to onlyfans.com and sign up with an email address you use only for this. Do not sign up with a personal Google or X account. Use a long, unique password and turn on two-factor authentication as soon as the account exists.

Verify your email, then switch the account from fan to creator. OnlyFans will walk you through the creator application.

Step 2: Identity verification

To post content and get paid, OnlyFans requires:

  • A government-issued photo ID (passport, driving licence or national ID card)
  • A selfie, usually taken live in the verification flow, to match the ID
  • Your legal name, address and date of birth
  • Confirmation that you are at least 18

OnlyFans uses third-party verification, and the process can take anywhere from a few hours to several days. Common reasons for rejection are glare on the ID, a cropped document, a name that does not match exactly, or an expired ID. If it bounces, fix the specific problem and resubmit.

Anyone who appears in your content needs to be verified as well. If you plan to film with a partner, they go through the same process and are added to your account as a release form or co-creator, depending on the current OnlyFans flow.

Step 3: Bank details

You will be asked for a payout method. Options vary by country and have included direct bank transfer, international wire and e-wallets. Direct transfer is the usual choice. Expect:

  • OnlyFans keeps 20% of everything a fan pays you
  • Earnings sit in a pending balance for a holding period, commonly around seven days
  • Transfers take a few business days to arrive
  • There is a minimum withdrawal, which has been $20 for US accounts

Check your own account for current figures, as they vary by country and payment method.

Step 4: Build the profile

You need five things before a stranger sees the page:

Element What it is for Rule of thumb
Username Your address across platforms Short, memorable, not your real name
Display name What fans see in their feed Can include your niche: "Mia, your gym girl"
Profile picture The thumbnail everywhere Clear, bright, on-brand, works at small sizes
Banner The first thing a visitor sees Shows what the page is, with text if needed
Bio The pitch What you post, how often, what is included, what to do next

The bio does more work than people expect. "Daily posts, DMs always open, customs available, no face" sets expectations and starts conversations. Our bio examples article has a formula and examples by niche.

Step 5: Set your price

OnlyFans allows free pages and paid subscriptions, which have long been limited to between $4.99 and $49.99 a month.

  • Free page: fastest growth, lots of lurkers, all income from pay-per-view, tips and customs. Works if you are active in DMs.
  • $5 to $10: low barrier, steady sign-ups, still room to sell in messages. The most common starting point.
  • $10 to $20: fewer, more committed fans. Better if you post a lot and include most of it.
  • $20 and above: niche or established. Fans expect everything included.

New creators with no existing audience usually do best with a free page or a low paid price, because the first payment is the hardest to get. Our subscription price guide covers when to change it.

Whatever you choose, set your prices for everything else at the same time: pay-per-view messages, customs, tips for specific things. A written tip menu stops you making it up on the spot. See tip menu examples.

Step 6: Load the page before launch

A fan who subscribes to a page with two posts leaves and does not come back. Before you promote anywhere:

  • 10 to 15 posts on the feed, a mix of pictures and short video
  • A pinned post that says who you are and what to expect
  • A welcome message set up to send automatically to new subscribers. This is the single highest-leverage message on the platform. Examples here.
  • Three to five pay-per-view sets ready to send when someone asks
  • A content buffer of at least two weeks so you are never scrambling

Shoot in batches. One afternoon of shooting with three outfit changes and two locations gives you two weeks of posts.

Step 7: Privacy and safety setup

Do this on day one, not after something goes wrong:

  • Two-factor authentication on OnlyFans, your email and your socials
  • Location data turned off on your camera
  • A watermark with your username on everything
  • Geoblocking enabled for your own country or region if you want to reduce the chance of being recognised locally (OnlyFans has offered this in settings; check the current location)
  • A separate phone number or authenticator app for codes
  • Nothing in the background of a shot that identifies your home

Step 8: Your first 30 days

The account is live. Now the actual work:

Week 1. Post daily. Set up X and Reddit accounts under the same name. Post on both every day. Reply to every DM within a few hours.

Week 2. Start a routine: one promo post per platform per day, one new OnlyFans post, 30 minutes in DMs. Send your first pay-per-view to everyone who has engaged.

Week 3 and 4. Look at what brought people in and do more of that. Ask fans what they want. Quote your first customs. Review your welcome message against who actually subscribed.

Common mistakes

  • Launching empty. The number one reason first subscribers do not renew.
  • Promoting from your personal accounts. It is not reversible.
  • No tip menu. You will underprice everything when asked live.
  • Slow replies. Most income on OnlyFans comes from messages. A fan who waits a day has spent his money elsewhere.
  • Signing with an agency in week one. Agencies DM new creators constantly. Build the page yourself first, then read agency vs independent before you talk to anyone.
  • Ignoring tax. You are self-employed from the first payout. Set aside a share from day one. See our tax guide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does OnlyFans verification take? Anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on volume and whether your documents are clear. Rejections are usually fixable: better lighting, the full document in frame, a current ID.

Can I start an OnlyFans without showing my face? Yes. Feet, lingerie, body-focused content, audio, cosplay with masks, and couples content from the neck down are all established faceless niches. Decide before you post anything.

Do I need followers before I start? No, but you need a plan to get them. OnlyFans does not have a discovery feed that will find fans for you. Reddit and X are the usual starting points for a creator with no audience.

How much does it cost to start an OnlyFans? Nothing to create the account. OnlyFans takes 20% of what you earn. Your real costs are a phone, a ring light if you want one, and your time.

Can I use a stage name? Yes. Your legal name is used for verification and payouts only. Your username and display name are whatever you choose.

How quickly will I make money? Most new creators earn little in the first month and a few hundred by month three if they promote daily. Agencies that publish figures suggest the first 100 subscribers take one to two months of consistent promotion. Faster is possible with an existing audience.

Where Naughtii fits

The setup is a weekend. The DMs are forever. Naughtii is an AI assistant that drafts replies to your fans in your own voice, with your prices and boundaries built in, from your iPhone or in Chrome. You read every draft and send it yourself, so nothing is automated and nothing goes out that you did not approve. It is built for creators who want to stay independent rather than hand their inbox to an agency. The first month is free.

The bottom line

Decide your niche, your face policy and your price before you sign up. Verify with a clear ID, set up payouts, and lock down privacy on day one. Load the page with ten to fifteen posts, a pinned post and a welcome message before anyone sees it. Then spend your first month promoting daily and replying fast. The page is the easy part.

Platform steps, limits and fees reflect publicly available information as of 2 October 2026 and change over time. OnlyFans' own help pages and your account settings are the authority for current details. Nothing here is legal or financial advice. Naughtii is not affiliated with OnlyFans.
